supporting local authority finance teams
Since 2003, Maltway have been running the Finance Training Curriculum for staff at the London Borough of Lambeth. The curriculum of 18 courses covers finance monitoring, financial systems and controls and finances and financial tools. We are proud to be a National Training Awards 2005 Winner in partnership with LB of Lambeth for this work.
Accountancy Age recently awarded Lambeth the Finance Team of the Year and their FD, Richard Ennis, Public Sector Director of the Year. This was a consequence of the work put in to raise the standards of financial reporting and control at Lambeth during 2003/4.
Previously, Lambeth was in financial difficulty. It had a significant deficit on its general fund and a long history of financial mismanagement including large overspends on its budget. Lambeth was experiencing high staff turnover and staff lacked skills and knowledge in key areas of financial management.
As a key priority in the Lambeth recovery plan, maltway worked with the head of training for Finance at Lambeth to develop a comprehensive Finance Training Curriculum, covering all aspects of the finance role. Its aims to boost staff performance and morale, alongside a linked improvement in financial performance.
We offer a full range of financial training for finance staff including budget modelling skills, closing accounts, performing reconciliations, claiming for grants, investment appraisal, understanding local authority finance, financial regulations awareness, managing credit control processes and understanding the impact of IFRS on local authority accounting. You benefit from a tried and tested training approach that minimises the cost of developing in-house training, which at the same time is tailored to reflect your own specific processes and regulations.
